The day of St. Michael Ceremony held every month on 19th

After a day of visiting all the 11 churches hewn out of solid rock which filled us with wonder and amazement, we had the honour of attending the St. Michael Ceremony at dawn where thousands of villagers and residents of Lalibela came to worship St. Michael at the Church of Golgotha-Mikael.
All covered in white, the very old on walking sticks to the very young. All in devotion and prayer. I found my way in a long procession into the church where chanting, drums and blessings were sounded and offered. Again the reverent devotion was humbling and sincere.
Bernadette found herself up on the hill above the church where the ceremony was being performed and she will describe that when she does the possibly next blog. Her photography and capture of the people and the surroundings are superb and i am so grateful to her for being here with me.
She is out now and it has begun to pour with rain!!!!
